On the First Day of…School??

Well, the dreaded first day of the new semester is over. Hallelujah! I’m going to have to admit that from the outset this looks like one of the most challenging semesters I’ve ever embarked on. I’m taking 18 credit hours, working close to 10 hours a week, practicing 2 instruments, and singing in the Opera Chorus.ย  I’m going to die. And if by some miracle I live to see the close of this semester and 2 more, I will be given a piece of paper saying I’ve graduated. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. But then I think about the future, I dream ofย  being a part of the glorious world of music and opera, and I know it’s worth it in the end. And, you know, the journey, while hard at times, is totally worth it all. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wait, what?

Well, I’ve flown thousands of miles across the heart of the USA, I’ve done most of my unpacking, I’ve fixed my schedule for the coming semester, I’ve spent an obscene amount of money on textbooks, I’ve spent time with random friends and roommates.

Yep. I guess the semester really is here…. Can I go home now?

Have I mentioned just how much I love tatting? It has become an obsession with me (as I mentioned a few posts ago). At the moment I am working on a snowflake that should come out to between 4 and 6 inches. It’s quite pretty and since it’s a new pattern that I’m trying, I’m thoroughly enjoying breaking up the monotony of the old patterns. The only sad thing is that I don’t think I’ll be able to bring my tatting shuttle with me on the plane when I fly back to school on Tuesday. This is tragically sad. But maybe I can prepare another project to work on during the flight. ๐Ÿ™‚

In other news, my story is now up to 14,500 words!! I don’t have it all up at the moment, but you can read most of it by clicking on the tab above named “Remember Me – a novel.” I would love to have some feedback and opinions on the story. Since the story is so dark (it tells about the Holocaust), I’m working extra hard to keep some light in there. Because no matter how dark it gets, one can always find something to be glad about.

Obsession – by Calvin Klein

I have become introduced to a new obsession! Tatting! ๐Ÿ˜€ (And no, to those of you who will invariably take this the wrong way, tatting does not refer to marking my body with ink and needles. Tatting is a handcraft similar to macrame, but it looks a lot like crocheting or knitting.) A good friend introduced me to tatting this summer, but I didn’t really get going on it until recently when I got my own tatting shuttle with Christmas money. And now? Other than reading tatting is one of the things I want to do most. I tat while I watch movies, ogle patterns while I eat, and google ideas when I’m free. I’m obsessed!
