Thirty

Today is my husband’s birthday. He is turning 30.

He was 27 when I met him. We started dating and quickly fell in like and then in love. His first birthday after we met I made him the most awful cake – I didn’t know it wouldn’t turn out, and I wasn’t much of a cook. But he smiled and we ate cake.

A year later I made him a beautiful cake: Chocolate cake with milk chocolate frosting. I was so proud of that cake even though the kitchen was trashed. It took us a week to finish it.

This year is his first birthday after we were married. He told me not to make a cake – we don’t need the sugar. Instead we are going out for dinner with friends.

Cakes aren’t important. What is important, though, is the love they represent. And I love my husband dearly.

Happy birthday, husband.
