Archeology

Dragged up from the depths of my stash, here we see a project started 3 years ago or more. I was poor and had recently started knitting. I kept seeing pictures of people with yarn bowls, but with no money to buy one I decided to make my own. After a quick google search I came up with this: cotton rope wrapped with yarn. Every inch or so I would wrap the row underneath to hold the thing together.

This project came and went and spent a lot of time hibernating. When I pulled it out on Sunday it only needed another 30 minutes of work. Tadah! Instant satisfaction.

My husband decided to wear it as a hat. I think he looks rather fetching. But then again, I am rather biased.

On the non-crafting front, I just bought the world’s most beautiful tea kettle.

Oh, ummmm. Ignore all that wool. It’s just from Three Waters Farm. It’s not amazing or anything. *You are distracted by the tea kettle*

  1. That is a seriously cool kettle!
As a hat, the yarn bowl is very fetching. Just not saying what it will fetch… 😉 Jokes aside, it’s really cute!

  2. When I started knitting again, I grabbed an old crafts magazine and some worsted wool and made a hat–a cloche with a two inch brim. Only it came out a cone shape that comes to a point. My husband wears it to keep the lamp light out of his eyes. He calls it his hobbit hat. And he shares this story with every knitter I introduce him to. Sigh.

  3. ohhh, did you succumb to the customer appreciation sale this weekend? I worked really hard to resist, and of course, am sorry as beautiful photos are popping up all over the internet… what colors did you get?

    1. I did…. I comfort myself that I was already planning to buy these and some of them are for gifts. I got natural BFL, Clearwater BFL, and Corona Polwarth/Silk. So beautiful.
Good for you for doing what you need to do, even though it’s not as fun as shopping. The budget is important.
